Yoga Teacher Training in Crete: Why Holon Might Be Exactly What You Have Been Looking For

Let’s be real about something. Most people who search for yoga teacher training are not sitting there thinking: I want a career change. They are thinking something different: I want more of this! More understanding and more of whatever it is that happens when a practice genuinely clicks.

That inner pull is not something to ignore.

The real value of a training is not measured by the document you receive at the end. It is reflected in how much deeper your understanding becomes once the learning begins to settle in.

That is what brings a lot of people to Holon Yoga in Crete. And once they get here, most of them wish they had come sooner.

You Do Not Have to Want to Teach to Do a Teacher Training

This is something people do not say enough.

A 200-hour yoga teacher training is not the first step toward a teaching career for many people. It is a chance to explore yoga beyond the poses they already know. Curiosity often grows after years of regular practice. They want to understand the ideas and deeper principles that shape the experience they feel every time they step onto the mat.

They want to know what pranayama is actually doing to their nervous system. They want the anatomy to make sense. They want the whole picture.

That is a completely valid reason to do a teacher training, and at Holon, it is taken just as seriously as someone who wants to teach full-time after completing the course.

The yoga teacher training is recognised by Yoga Alliance. So at the end of the training, you can register with Yoga Alliance which means that you certification is recognised in over 160 countries and is the standard qualification studios and wellness spaces look for worldwide.

But honestly, what people talk about most after finishing a Holon training is not the certificate. It is everything else they walked away with.

The Teachers Are the Whole Point

You can find a 200-hour yoga teacher training almost anywhere these days. What you cannot find everywhere is teachers who have genuinely lived what they are teaching.

Emilie Ananya Ananda, who founded Holon, trained in Greece and India with Indian masters at the SivaOm School of Yoga and then at the Paramanand Institute of Yoga Science under Dr. Omanand Guruji.   She has logged over 800 hours specifically in the therapeutic uses of yoga and holds certification from the International Association of Yoga Therapists, which is the body that sets clinical standards for yoga therapy globally. She is also a trained pranayama therapist.  She has almost 2000h of yoga training overall and before being a teacher, she is a student of yoga and her teachings are anchored her own daily practice.

Before all of this, she spent more than a decade doing humanitarian work in different parts of the world. She studied anthropology and public health. None of that is background noise. It is the reason she reads people the way she does, and why being in her class feels different from being in most classes.

Dr. Omanand Guruji is her Guru or teacher and he is this Yoga teacher training is taking place under his overall guidance and he is also teaching some classes personally. So the philosophy is not being filtered through three layers of interpretation. It is coming from the source directly.

That matters. A lot.

What Crete Actually Does to a Yoga Practice

People choose Crete for yoga training for the obvious reasons. The weather, the beauty, the fact that it genuinely feels far from ordinary life. All of that is real & all of it counts.

But there is something else about this particular part of Crete that is harder to put into words.

Holon is in Vamos, a small village in the Apokoronas area, about half an hour from Chania. It is not a resort. It is not a wellness complex designed to look authentic. It is an actual studio in an actual village where people live and practice together, and the pace of life around it is genuinely slow.

When you are trying to absorb a philosophy that is thousands of years old, when you are trying to sit with breathwork, when you are trying to understand your own body from the inside, an environment like this is not just nice to have. It helps.

What the Training Actually Covers

A proper 200-hour programme covers asana and many other yoga techniques (such as kriya, mudras, shat karma, pranayama, mantra), anatomy and physiology, teaching methodology, yoga philosophy, and real supervised teaching practice where you actually get in front of people and teach.

The philosophy and anatomy modules are often where students experience the most significant shift in perspective. This is not because the physical postures are unimportant, but because understanding why the entire system works the way it does transforms the way you approach your practice.

You stop simply performing poses and begin truly practicing them. Yoga becomes more than a method for improving strength and flexibility; it becomes a lifestyle and a philosophy that supports greater physical, emotional, spiritual and social well-being.

That shift in understanding is what makes the real difference.

Holon Yoga is an affiliate school of the Paramanand Institute of Yoga Science and Research (India).  Holon Yoga’s teacher training curriculum is rooted in classical Hatha Yoga and transmitted through a direct lineage.

The Paramanand Yoga lineage is founded on the traditional teachings of Yoga and Vedanta, tracing its origins to the establishment of charitable schools and ashrams in India in 1966. It emphasizes the integration of ancient yogic scriptures with modern therapeutic applications.

Pranayama is approached as a serious discipline rather than a brief warm-up practice. Philosophy classes are taught by experienced practitioners who have dedicated years to the study and application of these teachings, rather than simply summarizing them from textbooks.

Is This the Right Training for You

If you have been practicing for a while and feel like you are bumping up against the ceiling of what you can access on your own, yes. This is probably right for you.

If you want to understand yoga properly, including the parts that never come up in a standard group class, yes.

If you want to teach and you want to do it with real knowledge behind you rather than just enthusiasm and physical fitness, absolutely yes.

If you are looking for a quick certification with minimal effort, this is genuinely not it. Holon Yoga’s training asks something real of you. But what you get back is proportional to that.

FAQs

How long does it take to train as a yoga instructor?

It can take a few weeks or a few months. It depends on the course you join and how fast you want to learn.  At Holon Yoga we now offer blended training with online and in person program that takes overall 6 months.  We don’t believe you can become a competent yoga teacher in a couple of weeks.

What qualifications are required for teachers in Greece?

Most yoga teachers complete a yoga training course before teaching. Having good knowledge and practice of yoga is also important.

Is 40, 50, 60, 70 too old to become a yoga teacher?

No, not at all. Yoga is not about physical fitness and you can become a yoga teacher at any age.  At every age, a teacher will have something else to offer to it’s students and at Holon Yoga we honour that.

Will AI replace yoga teachers?

No. People learn yoga from people. A real teacher can guide, support, and correct students in ways AI cannot.  Yoga is about balancing your energy, your mind and your body.  So far we have not see that a machine can help you with that.

Before You Go

Yoga teacher training in Crete is not short of options. What is harder to find is a training where the quality of teaching, the authenticity of the lineage, and the sincerity of the environment all point in the same direction at once.

At Holon, that is what you get. A real teacher who trained under a real guru. A co-lead who is that guru. A studio in a part of Crete that does something to people. And a certification that means something when you carry it out of here.

If this feels like it is speaking to something you have already been thinking about, go and have a conversation with the Holon team. That is the right next step.
